POMECTINE 100 ml Ivermectin is an avermectin, a group of drups that has a unique mode of action against a broad spectrum of parasites. The avermectins are macrocyclic fermentation products of an actinomycete, Streptomyces avermitilis. Ivermectine paralizes nematodes and arthropods by stimulating GABA-mediated chloride ion conductance and the result is the blocking of postsynaptic transmission of nerve impulses. In mammals, GABA-ergic neurons are found only in the CNS. Since ivermectin do not readily cross the mammalian blood-brain barrier, it has a wide safety margin in mammals. Ivermectin is well absorbed with greater bio-availability after subcutaneous than after oral administration. The liver and fat contain the highest residues, with little in the muscle and kidney. Faecal excretion is the main route of elimination, with the remainder appearing in the urine.
