Meloxicam is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) of the oxicam class which acts by inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis, thereby exerting anti-inflammatory, anti-endotoxic, anti-exudative, analgesic and antipyretic properties. It has preferential COX-2 inhibitory properties.
Horses – For single dose rapid initiation of therapy for musculoskeletal disorders and relief of pain associated with colic.
Side Effects and Overdosing – Subcutaneous as well as intravenous administration is well tolerated in cattle; only a slight transient swelling at the injection site following subcutaneous administration has been reported in approximately 10% of animals treated in clinical studies. In the case of overdosing symptomatic treatment should be initiated.
